If you want your photos to feel unmistakably New York, Top of the Rock is one of the first places I'd suggest. The view is incredible, of course, but what I really love about this location is how the city becomes part of the photographs. The Empire State Building, the rooftops of Manhattan, and the skyline stretching into the distance create a setting that's difficult to reproduce anywhere else.

Why Top of the Rock works so well for photos

This location is especially beautiful for couples who love a clean, sophisticated, city-inspired look.

I like creating a mix of wider photographs that show the Manhattan skyline and closer portraits where the focus stays on you. The architecture, open sky, and surrounding buildings give the images a very different feeling from a traditional park photoshoot.

You can dress up a little, enjoy the view, and have photographs that feel almost like a magazine editorial.

The best time for your photoshoot

Personally, I prefer photographing here earlier in the day when possible. We have a better chance of finding space between visitors, and the light can be beautiful.

Sunset is another attractive option, especially if you want warmer tones and the city gradually changing into evening. Just keep in mind that it's also a very popular time.

One important thing to know: Top of the Rock is a public observation deck, not a private photography studio. We'll need to work around other visitors and follow the venue's photography rules.

What should you wear?

I love a more polished look for this location. A beautiful dress, a tailored jacket, or a simple, well-coordinated outfit can work wonderfully against the skyline. Because we're high above the city, wind is also something to consider, particularly with longer hair and flowing dresses.
